External Advice. Get some.

I just finished reading a great blog post over at Harvard Business. They produce a lot of good work; most weeks it is way too much for me to follow as closely as I would like. However, this entry jumped out at me from my RSS reader… it stood out and I encourage all decision makers to read it.

In it, the author demonstrates the value of external advice. We are all subject to the temptation of seeking advice from the people most likely to agree with us. By extension, we seldom seek advice from those that poke gaping holes in our brilliant plans. I won’t bore you with the psychology of it, but I do encourage you to visit the original post.

This reminds me of a great line I heard in a not-too popular song by The Gentlemen, “It’s not so much that I disagree with you; It’s that you’re wrong.”
